Kowanyama Sport and Recreation

Kowanyama Sport and Recreation (S&R) is a division of KASC. The S&R unit is enthusiastic, innovative and professional. Activities cater for all age groups. The unit  operates from the new Multi Purpose centre. The building constructed with governments financial support at cost approximately $8.0m,  caters for sport, recreation and convention activities.

 

Vision Statement

"The purpose of the Kowanyama Sports and Recreation Association Inc. is to promote, foster, support & encourage participation in Sport & Recreational activities in the community and other regions.”

KSRA Inc.  will do this by providing opportunities to the people of Kowanyama to participate and compete in sporting and recreational activities while supporting, fostering and encouraging participants to reach their full potential. These opportunities will be provided through or in partnership with community based local groups as well as regional or national organisations. In providing such opportunities the capacity of the community to offer and deliver sports and recreational programs will be increased in addition to strengthening participating communities."

 

History

Representatives from Kowanyama recognised the need to establish a Sport and Recreational Association to support representative teams and individual sporting teams and groups. The Association would assist in developing intellect, spirit and body to the fullest potential for self-fulfillment of all participants.  They believed that sporting events and recreational activities at local, regional and national levels required cooperation and leadership. They had in mind sport competition and physical recreational activities practices. This type of leadership and encouragement was, and still is, believed to help individuals to reach their dreams and continue their sport and recreational activities while at the same time representing Kowanyama Community.

The Kowanyama Sport and Recreation Association Incorporation was established and incorporated in 2006.

KOWANYAMA RODEO ASSOCIATION

The Kowanyama Rodeo Association Inc. is recognized as a bridge between the existing partners in the sport delivery system. Kowanyama Rodeo Association works with the Kowanyama Sport and Recreation Association Inc. to respond to the need for more equitable accessible sport and recreational opportunities, to support in eliminating any barriers that may arise in sport structures, work towards providing educational and upgrading opportunities and provide more accessible opportunities for representatives to participate in sport at a local, regional and national level
