Kowanyama has proudly unveiled its latest attraction – a state-of-the-art splash park. This thrilling addition is strategically nestled in the heart of our town, adjacent to the swimming pool. Masterfully designed by Kirratech Lifestyle Pools, it promises a watery world of fun for our community.
The splash park is more than just a play area; it’s a safe, zero-depth interactive water park that promises an immersive experience for children and families. With features like jets, geysers, and splash buckets, it offers endless fun, particularly during the warmer months.
Temba Lama, Executive Manager of Roads, Infrastructure, and Essential Services at Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council, highlighted the broader significance of this new amenity. He explained, “The splash park is a fantastic addition to our community. Not only will it provide a fun and engaging play experience for children, but it will also promote movement, spatial awareness, and encourage creativity and team play. It stands as a great example of how we are dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of our community by providing a safe and stimulating environment for our residents to grow and thrive.”
This project has been a long-awaited dream for the community, dating back to 2018 when students from Kowanyama State School expressed their desire for such a facility. Thanks to the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland funding, this dream has now become a reality for our kids and the wider community.
Kevin Bell, CEO of Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council, expressed his pride in this significant achievement. He highlighted that Kowanyama has the hottest median temperature in Queensland, making this investment all the more critical. He said, “With this critical investment, the Council was able to remove the small children’s pool that was in a state of disrepair and replace it with this kids and family-friendly splash park, meaning Kowanyama is one of the few Councils having both a pool and splash park.”
The splash park showcases the Council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life for all our residents. Foreseen as a beloved destination for families and visitors alike, it provides a secure and engaging space for children to play and explore, affirming its place as a valued addition to Kowanyama.
