There is a chance of widespread flooding in Kowanyama within the coming days.

Conditions could become dangerous. For flood and storm emergency help, call the SES on 132 500 or download the SES Assistance QLD app.

Impacts in your Area:

  • River and creek levels are quickly rising in the Mitchell River Catchment.
  • There could be flooding near the river and creeks.
  • Roads could be flooded, making it dangerous to drive.

What You Should Do:

  • Stay up to date because conditions could change overnight: Information is available via TCICA’s disaster dashboard https://dashboard.tcica.com.au/ and local radio Channel 40.
  • Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
  • Decide what you will do if flooding starts. Find out how to get ready for a flood at https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/prepare/flooding
  • Stay out of rivers, creeks and flood water.
  • If flooding starts, do not drive unless you have to.

For Those with Limited Mobility:

  • Start getting ready now in case the flood gets worse and you need to leave: Pack a bag with enough clothes for five days, important documents (like identification, insurance papers and passports), medicine, cash and keys.
  • Call your support service, a family member or a friend to organise transport if the flood gets worse and you need to leave.
