Low lying areas in Kowanyama could experience water inundation such as the new residential development on Pindi St including the State School, houses on the southern end of Kowanyama St, Arwin Amay St, Shelfo Rd near the airport. Water can be expected on Chapman Rd, Kowanyama St, Pindi St, Uwelkorig St, Thartj Manengk St and Shelfo Rd.

There is a chance of localised flooding in Kowanyama due to rises in the Magnificent Creek and ongoing rainfall. Conditions could become dangerous.

  • Magnificent Creek is currently at Major flood level.
  • There will be localised flooding in low lying streets of Kowanyama.
  • If roads are flooded avoid driving through floodwaters (if it’s flooded, forget it).
  • Heavy rain will increase the localised flooding impacts.

  • Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
  • Decide what you will do if flooding starts to become worse.
  • People in the low lying streets in Kowanyama need to have identified friends or family to relocate to if flooding becomes worse.
  • Stay out of rivers, creeks and flood water.
