Referendum: Voice to Parliament
On Saturday, 14 October 2023, Australia will have a referendum about whether to change the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing a body called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.
The Voice would be an independent and permanent advisory body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It would give advice to the Australian Parliament and Government on matters that affect their lives.
You can find out more at https://voice.gov.au/.
Voting in the referendum is compulsory for all eligible Australian citizens aged 18 years and above, and it will be held at the Kowanyama Multipurpose Centre.
It’s important that everyone is enrolled to vote to have a say. Find out more about enrolling to vote at aec.gov.au/indigenous.
